Proposed Amendments to Chapter Bylaws

Posted: Jan 04, 2018

This past August, ASSE members made the historic decision to change the organization’s name to the American Society of Safety Professionals.

ASSE members voted to amend Society bylaws to reflect the new name. As a separately incorporated entity, our chapter needs to hold a separate chapter member vote to change the name in our bylaws, as well.

To learn more about these proposed changes:

We will hold a member vote on these proposed changes at an upcoming meeting of the chapter.

Stony Brook University Environmental Health & Safety Interns

Posted: Nov 14, 2017

It’s that time of year where I’m making arrangements with our hosting institutions for our Environmental Health & Safety Interns and I’ll be looking to place them in late January/early February.  Can I count on you to take our Intern(s) this year?

Stony Brook University’s School of Health Technology and Management is looking to place EH&S students in the field.  These students are graduating seniors and are available for internships from early February until mid-May.  Their areas of interest are in the following disciplines:

*                Industrial Safety Engineering / Occupational Safety

*                Industrial Hygiene / Occupational Health

*                Radiation Safety / Health Physics

*                Fire Protection / Fire Safety

*                Environmental Management (Air/Water/Soil)

*                Waste Management

*                Emergency Management

*                Healthcare Safety/Environment of Care

The students are typically available in 1/2 day blocks, but many are available for full days (this must be coordinated through the individual students)  They are required to complete a minimum of 90 hours of internship by graduation in May.  There is no cost to the hosting institution.  If you are interested in having a student intern with you, please contact Leo DeBobes at leo.debobes@stonybrookmedicine.edu

More details about the BS in Health Sciences (EH&S concentration) can be found athttp://healthtechnology.stonybrookmedicine.edu/programs/hs/curriculum/nonclinical

As many of you already know, our students intern in hospitals, schools, industry, and regulatory agencies (and elsewhere) throughout the Long Island and NYC areas.
